CECAD | Storelli Lab

The University of Cologne is one of the largest and most research-intensive universities in Germany, offering a wide range of subjects. With its six faculties and its interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas, supported by the administration with its services.

The Storelli lab has recently been established at the CECAD Research Center, The University of Cologne. The Storelli lab aims at dissecting how organ-specific metabolic activities support the physiology of the whole organism, with the goal to understand how metabolic dysfunctions contribute to aging-related diseases, such as cancer or diabetes. We use the simple model organism Drosophila melanogaster and mammalian cell culture in this endeavor. Our research interests span several fields, among which developmental and cell biology, metabolism, physiology, and inter-organ communication.

YOUR TASKS

  • Technical support on projects (molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, biochemistry, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic analyses)
  • General lab organization (ordering of equipment, reagents, consumable etc.) and administrative support to the group leader
  • Lab logistics (preparation of fly/bacterial media, care of the fly collection, fly genetics, cell culture)

The position is available immediately on a full-time basis. It is initially limited to a term of 4 years. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group up to 9a TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.

Anforderungsprofil

YOUR PROFILE

  • Successfully completed education as state-approved biological, chemical or medical technical assistant, or lab technician or other employees with equivalent skills and experience as a technical assistant (e.g. Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences)
  • Fluent in German and English (English is the working language in the lab)
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, and genuine interest for fundamental research
  • Past experience with mammalian cell and organoid culture is a strong plus
  • Taste for team work, but also autonomy and good problem- solving skills
  • Working knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry and histochemistry
  • Knowledge of Drosophila genetics and handling is notrequired.
