The Biointegrated Photonics laboratory of Jun.-Prof. Dr. Marcel Schubert is specialised in the development of microscopic lasers and biocompatible optical devices for biomedical applications. The lab is part of the newly established Centre for NanoBioPhotonics. The centre provides access to state-of-the-art optics labs, a new-built cleanroom, as well as in-house cell culture and nanofabrication facilities. The interdisciplinary research of the lab benefits from the high-profile biomedical research environment established at the University of Cologne, including the “Cluster of Excellence - Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases” (CECAD), and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC), as well as the material science-focussed “Cluster of Excellence - Quantum Matter and Materials” (QM2).

YOUR TASKS

  • In general, your role will see you develop new concepts of nanoscopic photonic cardiac sensors, study their integration into artificially grown cardiac tissue and explore new detection schemes to characterise the mechanical properties of heart muscles in vivo
  • Preparation of scientific publications
  • Presentation of the results at national and international conferences, workshops and project meetings
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of students

The position is available from the 01.07.2021 on a part-time basis (19,92 hours per week / 50%). It is limited to 31.12.2024. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Material Science (or equivalent)
  • Interest in interdisciplinary science
  • Good communication and English language skills
  • Prior knowledge in microscopy, laser physics, cell culturing, or nanofabrication are preferred but not essential
