Description

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) Fungal Genomics

Institute for Plant Sciences/CEPLAS

The University of Cologne is one of the largest and most research-intensive universities in Germany, offering a wide range of subjects. With its six faculties and its interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas, supported by the administration with its services.

The newly established “Evolutionary Microbiology” group at the Institute for Plant Sciences and the Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences (CEPLAS) studies molecular mechanisms underlying interactions of pathogenic fungi with plant hosts, with a focus on Verticillium fungi. We use population genomics to understand how the broad host-range vascular wilt fungus Verticillium dahliae establishes the genetic variation that mediates adaption to environmental challenges. The selected candidate will study the occurrence and mechanistic regulation of large-scale genomic rearrangements that occur in Verticillium dahliae and that are instrumental for optimizing fungal virulence in planta.

Your Tasks

  • You will be responsible for developing independent scientific research in the area of Verticillium genome evolution, building on the track record and previous discoveries of the group as documented in various scientific publications
  • Train, supervise and teach students
  • Actively engage in group meetings and discussions
  • Write and publish scientific articles
